The 14th annual Coast Spring Classic small sided weekend wrapped up today for two hundred twenty six teams from forty different clubs. Weather conditions were ideal for the event played at Market Commons and the North Myrtle Beach Sports Park. “Running an event this size takes a huge effort from a lot of different people. We filled just shy of four thousand room nights and hosted three hundred sixty seven teams from seven different states this year. The city staffs, athletic trainers, referee assignors, vendors, field marshals and Coast FA staff worked really well together to provide the players a good environment ‘’ said Coast Director Heyward Gulledge. Four Coast teams came away with medals from the weekend.
Coach Connor Norton Baker introduced his team (click for image) to the 9v9 format for the first time and claimed top honors in the U10 Boys Division. The boys rode a stifling defensive effort conceding one goal in four matches to win the championship. Victories came against quality opponents from SCUFC, Surf and NC Fusion. Coach Norton Baker said “ I am beyond proud of the way we played all weekend. They gave it their all and deserve to be champions. This was a great ending to a successful season.”
The Coast 14 Red (click for image) also won a championship at U8 Boys beating their new archrival SCUFC in the final 3-2. The boys have faced SCUFC four times this season and every match was super competitive. “Awesome weekend of soccer from my kids. Every member of the team stepped up and played a huge role to win our hometown tournament against three very good sides. This was a perfect way to end our spring season “ said Coach Q Grate.
Coach Dan Martin’s Coast 13 Black (click for image) posted a 3-1-0 record to finish as finalists in U9 Boys. The boys ran into a powerhouse Daniel Island team to keep them from top honors. “ The team has been working extremely hard on a lot of different aspects this season. To see the ideas and concepts appear during our games this weekend was great. The boys are getting better every match they play “ said Coach Martin.
Coach Aleksander Ljubicic made the most of his last weekend coaching the Coast 11 Red (click for image) as they finished as runner ups in the U11 Boys Division. A 2-2-0 record was enough to claim the finalist medals after a hard fought loss to eventual champion Charlotte Soccer Academy. Coach Alek and his wife Lisa are relocating to the west coast and will forever have our gratitude for their contribution to the club.
