Four Coast FA teams advanced to the championship match at the Adidas Clash in Greensboro, North Carolina over the weekend but all four fell short of claiming the top honors. The players battled through the remnants of a muggy tropical storm on Saturday only to be confronted with cold temperatures for the Sunday morning matches. A big thanks to the Greensboro staff for getting in all of the matches in less than ideal conditions.
Coast 07 Black (Click for Image)…Coach Gael Perez…U16 Platinum Division…The boys posted two shutouts in Saturday’s pool play and a hard fought 2-2 draw on Sunday to reach the finals. We ran into a very good Franklin County team and came up short in the championship. “ We started the weekend off very strong with convincing back to back wins. The boys worked so hard and never gave up on each other this tournament. As a coach that is all I can ask for and I am very proud of my team ” said Coach Perez.
Coast 11 Red (Click for Image) …Coach Rob Bramble…U12 Platinum Division…The team was hitting on all cylinders through the three pool play matches , scoring a whopping twelve goals while conceding only four. The championship match pitted us against well know foe CSA Uptown coached by former Coast FA Coach Endri Mince. Coach Endri won out in PK’s after ending regulation deadlocked 1-1. Coach Bramble said “ My boys showed excellent teamwork and strong character as they won all three qualifying matches coming from behind in two of those. It is always tough to lose a hard fought match on kicks from the mark however I am very proud of my team this weekend.”
Coast 12 Red (Click for Image)…Coach Dimitri Leftis…U11 Diamond Division…The 12 Red team played through three super competitive matches to advance to the championship match where they fell 0-3 to a strong Virginia United Pre ECNL side. A 3-2 result over PISA in the semi final was especially satisfying to Coach Leftis. “ I am very happy with the overall results from the weekend. We had a very difficult and competitive bracket. My boys will definitely learn and get better from playing this tournament ” said Coach Leftis.
Coast 14 Black (Click for Image)…Coach Oscar McConnell…U9 Platinum Division…The boys posted two wins and a draw in pool play to advance to the final against Chesapeake United. We dropped a 0-3 result to settle for finalist hardware. Coach McConnell said “ I am unbelievably proud of these boys and how much they have grown this season. We just put this team together in August and their progress has been steady. They deserved more in the final but they can be proud of their effort and I hope they enjoy those medals .”
