Four Coast FA teams returned home after capturing top honors over the weekend at the Adidas Clash in Greensboro,
North Carolina and a fifth team lost a heart breaker in PKs to finish as finalists. Nearly two hundred fifty teams from the Southeastern United States battled freezing temperatures and bitter winds at Bryan Park.”We sent eighteen of our teams to Greensboro so to come home with four championships and a finalist is very
rewarding. The kids overcame the weather and played tremendous competition all weekend” said Coast Director of Coaching Ross Morgan.
The Coast 01g Girls coached by R.J. Bass put on an absolute clinic all weekend posting four consecutive clean sheets while scoring seventeen goals in the 17U division.
In a bizarre turn of events the Coast 98g Flames and the Coast 99g Crush had to face
one another in the 19U semi finals after both teams won their opening two matches. Coach Mark Sanchez’s Flames prevailed and went on to win the championship 2-1 over the SW Virginia Rush.Coach
John Weaver’s Coast 04 Red boys team had the most consistent showing of the weekend with three close results in pool play and a 3-1 victory in the finals of the 14U division.
The Coast 06 Black team coached by Joe Wehrle lost their opening match of the tournament but reeled off three consecutive victories to win the 11U boys division.
