The Savannah Cup is officially in the books ! Coast FA got off to a great start claiming one championship and four finalist trophies at the Jennifer Ross Soccer Complex. Big thanks goes out to the Savannah United staff for hosting a great event. “Savannah always provides a nice event to officially kick off the spring season and get our teams some much needed matches. We were tired of scrimmaging in house so it was nice to play some live games ” said Coast Director of Coaching Ross Morgan.
Coaches Laura & Colin Steven’s girls put it all together this weekend to claim the championship in the U13 top division. The Coast 10g Red (Click for Image) team rode a rock solid defense that conceded only two goals over four matches. Three wins and one tie came over quality clubs from Atlanta, Savannah and Charleston. Coach Laura Stevens said “ I am so proud of the growth and development our team displayed this weekend. They implemented things that we have been working on for the past few weeks while displaying a great deal of toughness and unity. We scored ten goals from five different players during the tournament and are looking forward to league play. ”
Coach Joel Banta filled in for Coach Fatjon Cake and came up just shy of a championship in Savannah. The Coast 09 Black (Click for Image) team was involved in four extremely close matches during the tournament. “ I enjoyed working with the team this weekend while Coach Cake went on his honeymoon. The boys progressed nicely in every match but fell just short in the championship of U14 second division ” said Coach Banta.
Coach Mario Benjamin’s first ever tournament as head coach of the Coast 14g Red (Click for Image) was a huge success as the girls claimed finalist honors in the U9 top division. The girls got two shots at Atlanta based SSA Academy but could not find a way to break them down. Coach Benjamin said “ four matches in thirty six hours with one sub says a lot about the determination of this group. I am super excited about their future.”
The Coast 13 Red (Click for Image)team coached by Connor Norton Baker played up one year to U11 and experienced the 9v9 format for the first time with terrific results. The boys reeled off three consecutive wins in pool play before dropping the championship match in kicks from the mark. Coach Baker said “ Very proud of the way the boys played this weekend. We passed the ball very well and scored some great team goals. Couldn’t be happier considering it was their first experience in 9v9. Can’t wait to see this group continue to get better.
A strong side from SSA Academy prevented Coach Q Grate’s Coast 14 Red (Click for Image) from claiming top honors. The boys finished the weekend with two victories and two losses in the top division of U9. No quote was received from Coach Grate however the team continues to enjoy success and are looking forward to a great spring season.
