Thirteen Coast FA teams made their way to picturesque Savannah, Georgia this weekend and were met by cold temperatures and stiff competition. Four teams returned to Myrtle Beach with hardware after a grueling Sunday of play. Coast FA Director of Coaching Ross Morgan said “ The Savannah tournament offers us a great start to our spring season. With a good standard of play and competition from mainly Georgia and Florida, it gives us a good read on where our teams stand heading into league play. The Jennifer Ross Soccer Complex is large enough to host all of the matches in one location so it gives our staff a chance to watch and support one another all weekend. The facilities are top shelf, and the Savannah staff does a great job putting on the event .”

Coast 12 Red (Click for Image) and Coach Conner Norton Baker destroyed the top U10 division on their way to a championship. The boys scored goals in bunches, posting four consecutive victories with a ridiculous thirty goals scored while conceding only four. “ It was great to see the work that they have put in at training carry over on the field. This is a perfect start to the season and I am excited to what they can accomplish this spring “ said Coach Norton Baker.

Coach Nicole Griffith and her Coast 13 Red (Click for Image) side claimed the championship in the top U9 division. After two consecutive 2-2 draws on Saturday the boys found their stride by posting two 4-0 results on Sunday. The championship over Savannah United 13b Premier was a rock solid sixty minutes of soccer. “ I am so proud of these boys. We worked so hard this tournament and deserve to be champions. Everyone played as a team and never gave up. Shout out to my defenders and keeper on posting two clean sheets today “ said Coach Griffith.

Coach Alek Ljubicic and his Coast 11 Red (Click for Image) clawed their way into the top U11 division championship match after posting two hard fought draws and one win. The final pitted Coast versus Savannah United Blue for the second time during the tournament. After ending regulation knotted at 2-2 the kicks from the mark went Savannah’s way 5-4 so the boys had to settle for finalist medals this time around. Coach Ljubicic said “ It is a privilege to coach these young boys as they have character and are great competitors. We lost in PK’s today but my team showed maturity, supported their teammates and showed respect for their opponent during a very difficult match. I am proud to be their coach.”

The Coast 08 Red (Click for Image) and Coach Ross Morgan finished as finalists after successful pool play on Saturday before running into a quality Savannah United 08 Premier team in the championship. “ I m happy with the effort from the team this weekend and am looking forward to another couple of weeks of training leading into our league play. I am proud of the fight that they displayed ” said Coach Morgan.
