In arguably the single most successful day in the history of Coast FA, six state titles and one finalist were claimed and returned home to the Grand Strand. “We punch well above our weight against larger metropolitan areas within South Carolina. It is especially pleasing to claim a championship and finalist on the girl’s side where we have had less success than with the boys “said Coast Director of Coaching Ross Morgan.
In one of the most amazing turnarounds within a team the Coast 00g Crush Too team brought home a state championship after nearly disbanding the team earlier in the year. Coach R.J.Bass got the girls on the same page and put together a fantastic regular season posting a 7-0-1 record while only conceding six goals along the way. The Crush Too entered the PMSL state cup as a number one seed and lived up to their reputation capturing the final 2-0 versus LCGSA. The state champions will now move on to Regionals in Lafayette, Louisiana on June 10th where they will face the state champs from all of the other Region III states. “Watching the girls celebrate at the end was easily my proudest moment as a coach thus far” added Coach Bass. Well done girls!
Coach Karl Thorsen’s Coast 04 Black came together at the right time to capture the U10 boy’s state cup championship. The boys posted two wins and a draw during qualifying matches and then held on for a 1-0 thriller against Lexington Liverpool in the final.
Coach Justin Wolf led the U8 Coast 06 Red to the championship podium after posted four straight victories. “Two of the four wins came in dramatic fashion for our team and without any subs the kids were pushed to their limit” said Coach Wolf.
The Coast U9 boys and girls age groups were especially impressive bringing home four medals. Coaches Jimmy Deane and Aaron Miller combined to win state championships in each of the three (Red, Black, White) U9 levels offered. “These kids all train together as a group and to split them up and sweep all three championships offered is an amazing testament to our program. The future is very bright for this group of boys” “said Coast DOC Ross Morgan. The Coast 05g Redbrought home a finalist medal after a great weekend of soccer.
