Three Coast FA teams fell just short of championships at the Adidas Cup in Savannah, Georgia over the weekend. The Coast 09, 07 and 06 boys teams returned home with finalist trophies in the first tournament of the spring season. “ The field conditions in Savannah were outstanding and the tournament had well balanced divisions. It was great to get in a quality tournament after a long holiday break because our league play opens next weekend “ said Coast Director of Coaching Ross Morgan.
The Coast 07 Black (click for image) team suffered a huge heartbreak falling in the championship 0-1 in the U13 Gold Division to the 07 Charlotte Soccer Academy. After posting three straight clean sheets the lone goal against CSA proved to be costly. Coach Ben Strong said “ I am very proud of the way the boys played this weekend. It seems that we continue to improve and progress with every tournament that we enter. Their hard work at training is paying off and I am excited to see the team continue to take steps in the right direction.”
Coach Brian Smith’s Coast 06 Red (click for image) team won three matches but dropped a close decision to host club Savannah United to finish runner up in the U14 Gold Division. “ The boys played very good soccer all weekend but came up a little short in our final match. They fought until the final whistle and were in it until the end. I am looking forward to the spring season “ said Coach Smith.
Coach Mark Vollink enjoyed success in his first tournament as the head coach of the Coast 09 Red (click for image) team. The boys posted a 2-1-1 record in the U11 Gold Division while playing all four matches with no subs. “The boys put in the hard work and left everything on the field. They stayed mentally strong all weekend and gutted out some nice results. I enjoyed getting to know the players and parents over the weekend” said Coach Vollink.
